What a year to round up … 2020 has been interesting in many ways but one conclusion to draw is that we’ve been able to explore more beauty products whilst in lockdown. From the best edit for hyperpigmentation to the best under eye treatment, the product edit for 2020.
BEST FOR HYPERPIGMENTATION
It’s my BIGGEST skin concern and from the conversations I have had throughout the year it is for many of you also. It is important to note when it comes to pigmentation ( especially on darker skin tones) there are a number of techniques that is often doctor recommended, consistent exfoliation (AHAs & BHAs), retinoids, brightening ingredients, SPF and invest in a facial – overtime, you will see an improvement.
See products in edit below.
BEST FOR EXFOLIATION
The perfect at-home treatment in between facial sessions. As my skin has built up its tolerance, the advanced peel works in my favour – once or twice a week, I will work with this as part of my evening routine followed by a mask and soothing night cream.
Introduced to this over the summer, I’ve found this liquid exfoliation to be incredibly effective, especially if you love the stinging sensation after a medical grade peel. Removes any dirt, build up and my skin is silky smooth by morning.
Leaves no tint or shades of grey on the skin and works perfectly in combination with my moisturiser. With the newly released spray bottle version, it will be easier to use as a top up during the day.
BEST EYE TREATMENT
I often suffer with dark circles or puffy under eyes but my nemesis is dry and often sore under eyes. This hydrating eye cream has beat them all and in a matter of days, moisture is restored.
BEST SPOT TREATMENT
Now I have tried my fair share of spot treatments and whilst I like to bounce around a few, my fail safe is the spot treatment pen. I can put this on any brewing or active breakouts both morning and evening and within a matter of days, my spots are neither here or there.
BEST SKINCARE DEVICE
LED treatments are again another way to enhance your skincare routine and through light therapy the wonder mask but helps with acne to fine lines and wrinkles.
BEST FOR BRIGHTENING
A late one to the year’s round up but the Vitamin C capsules were the most effective in overall brightening and evening my skin’s tone. As a concentrated oil, I applied this morning and evening after my lightweight serum and the results over time were fantastic – my own Aesthetician commented on how bright and even my skin looked – result!
BEST FACIAL OIL
You can see I’m all about the brightening but I love using oils as my second serum and this one does not disappoint. Both hydrating, brightening and enhancing a glow, this facial oil is perfect at night to work its magic whilst sleeping.
Lightweight and a powerful formula, this moisturiser has proudly seen me through most of 2020. Formulated with Liquorice Root, Black Diamond Powder, Centella Asiatica and Hyaluronic Acid, my skin is hydrated, protected and treating my dark marks with Liquorice Root.
With the landscape changing around skincare and the importance of protecting and shielding the skin from environmental aggressors, I’ve found implementing antioxidants into my skincare routine as vital. Lightweight, absorbent and restoring hydration as well as protection, this essence is a strong contender.
BEST LIP TREATMENT
I have only one request when it comes to my lip balm – that it lasts hours and masterfully wins against food, talking and now masks. I hate applying a lip balm every three or four minutes and so this has worked out to be THE best lip balm in the game (for me). Hydrating, long lasting and my lips feel soft and supple, it’s cancelled out all other balms for me.
BEST FOUNDATION & CONCEALER DUO
Granted I’ve worn makeup perhaps 3 or 4 times totally this year and my decision to give up on foundation and work with improving my skin alone has been an interesting journey this year. Whilst I may prioritise skincare, when I do dabble with a complexion base, I have fallen in love with Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser, it’s hydrating, easy to blend, great shade ranges and leaves me with a healthy but radiant finish. Completed with my trusted Nars Radiant Concealer, my complexion base is light, luminous and long lasting.
BEST FACIAL TREATMENT
CHEMICAL PEEL, CRYO FACIAL & LASER
Okay, so I know that it’s cheating with three treatments but they all serve a unique purpose. When my skin needs a thorough detox and resurface, a chemical peel is my go-to and when my skin needs brightening and sculpting, I love a Cryotherapy Facial – cheekbones to the Gods. One that I found the best results for my scarring has been Laser and a treatment that is well worth the investment.
BEST FACE MASK
Hands down, one of THE best masks on the market – its hydrating, restorative, protective and brightening, left on my skin for 30-40 minutes and afterwards my complexion is transformed. I love to use this mask after an at-home facial, before makeup and when my skin is in need of a pick me up.
For a clay mask, the Beauty Bay Skin Fix Clay Mask is incredible for de-congesting the skin, have a hormonal breakout, this is the only mask my skin calls for.
BEST FOR HYDRATION
I attended the launch for this product on Zoom and hearing what Georgie Cleeve (Founder of Oskia) had to say from the research to the results, meant I was eager to see the results. Its so lightweight that it easily absorbs into the skin ( I tend to do 3 or 4 drops) but after consistent use I noticed my skin looked and felt plump, even and especially hydrated.
Not only housed in essential oils as to not irritate the skin, but the retinol oil is perfectly balanced to resurface, restore and hydrate the skin – now on a regular circulation in my routine.
*Whilst I am fortunate to try a lot of beauty products, I have my holy grail products that work consistently and effectively with my skin and all opinions are my own and judged off how it works with my skin.
*My skin type is combination-oily and my concerns are primarily hyperpigmentation & texture.
